  1. Wash and Soak red kidney beans in warm water for 4 hours.
  2. Rinse the water. Boil 5 bowls of water in a pan. Add soaked kidney beans and cover the lid and cook till kidney beans gets soft.
  3. Wash, peel and chop onion garlic, ginger and spring onions. Grate tomatoes and make puree.
  4. In another pan add cooking oil. Add asafoetida. Then Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and when seeds splutter put finely chopped onions and fry till translucent.
  5. Add finely chopped ginger, garlic and green chilli and saute for 1 minute.
  6. Add chopped spring onions and fry till golden brown.
  7. Add salt, red chili powder, turmeric, coriander seeds powder and mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
  8. Add grated and pureed tomatoes in it and saute till oil leaves the sides of the pan.
  9. Now add cooked kidney beans and mix. Let it simmer on low flame till it turn thick and mixes well with masala.
  10. Add garam masala and chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
  11. Serve hot with chapatti or rice garnished with sev and chopped onions.
